About your guide
Hello! I’m Rod, your guide.
I’m a walker, writer, podcaster and history buff who’s kicking himself for not thinking of writing this book years ago. It’s been the most challenging and rewarding project of my career so far.
When I visit a new city, I’m torn between going to the museum to learn its story and walking it to see and feel how it’s all knitted together. This book lets you do both at the same time!
I have so much to tell you. At one point the route was nearly 12 miles long, but I promised it could be done in a day and 12 miles seemed a bit much so, with many a yelp of pain, I whittled it down to a more manageable 8.5 miles.
Born in Canada, I studied history and political science at the University of Toronto (BA, 1990) and journalism at the University of King’s College in Halifax, Canada (BA Hons, 1993). I’ve striven to tell interesting, factual stories ever since, specialising in the built environment from 2001. I was launch editor of Global Construction Review in 2013. I’ve lived in Bath since 2012.
I can’t wait to show you around!
